A series of classic films in July & August hosted by Mal Vincent on Monday evenings.
(Tuesday afternoons without Mal)
For the seventh year, Virginian-Pilot movie critic and entertainment writer Mal Vincent hosts a festival of classic films - movies that are not likely to be shown in theaters ever again. Mal has chosen a varied lineup that features such stars as Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Marlon Brando, Orson Welles, and Elvis Presley. The no-theme, all-star, all-classics festival is designed with something for everyone in mind. Mal will introduce the films and provide post-screening background, often about members of the cast he has met while pursuing stories for the Pilot. The final screening will feature the audience's vote for the best performances.
Each film will have a Monday evening show at 7:15 and a Tuesday matinee at various showtimes (Mal will only be present at the Monday night presentations). On Mondays, tickets go on sale 45 minutes before each show. The line starts early and may look very long, but we seat over 500 and everyone gets in. We suggest purchasing a Naro Discount Ticket Book (available anytime at the Cinema, Naro Video, Birdland Music, or mail order at 625-6275 or -6), which will allow you to avoid buying a ticket at the box office and, once we start admitting people, allow you to walk right in - plus they're good for any movie anytime in the future.
(Also, don't miss Mal hosting a screening of CHICKEN RUN, a tribute to his dog Duncan, showing Wed July 21. Admission $5. Proceeds will benefit the local SPCA.)
