Flow

Oscar Nominee for Best Animated Feature Film!
Golden Globe Winner – Best Animated Feature Film!

NPR called this new animated film from Award-winning Latvian filmmaker Gints Zibalodis “the most breathtaking cat video in history.” With a message about cross-species cooperation and a playfully observant take on animal habits, Flow will certainly delight kids. But the film also offers food-for-thought for adults, who’ll be curious as to what might have caused the calamity that brought the critters together. Climate change, maybe? Flow doesn’t offer explanations, and the mystery proves haunting as currents carry the boat past a flooded city — towering, majestic and utterly empty of human inhabitants. Have animals inherited the earth? And if so, might they do better by it than we did, just going with the Flow?  (PG, 1h 24m)

“Finally, a feline-led film that really is about the perils of tribalism.” – Alison Wilmore, New York Magazine/ Vulture

“This is a wonderful film for children, its example of the give and take of friendship and the importance of mutual trust embedded organically in the narrative with clarity but without over-emphasis. It’s no less a film for adults…” – David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter

“The real takeaway is that we have to rely on each other for salvation. And it’s here where this experiential experiment in empathy, eco-activism and elation over the creative possibilities of a medium too often hijacked to sell toys truly hits its marks.” – David Fear, Rolling Stone
