I Saw the TV Glow

Teenager Owen is just trying to make it through life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show — a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. In the pale glow of the television, Owen’s view of reality begins to crack.  This 2024 psychological-horror film was written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun. (PG-13, 1h 40m)

“Jane Schoenbrun’s off-handedly evolutionary mindbender about two teens bonding over a sci-fi TV series isn’t always easy to get your head and heart around. But hold on for its incendiary daring. Schoenbrun is a trans game changer. They make us believe.” – Peter Travers, ABC News

“Schoenbrun’s vision of adolescence is finely detailed, with a clear understanding of the relations of adolescents to their parents and to each other.” – Richard Brody, New Yorker

Schoenbrun’s storytelling… weaves together half-remembered childhood elements in the way they might turn up in a nightmare, weaving in sounds and lights and colors and the gloriously inexplicable.” – Alissa Wilkinson, New York Times
