Idiocracy skewers society’s devolution with an amiably goofy yet deceptively barbed wit. In light of recent US and global political events, the film seems remarkably prescient and is worth revisiting on that basis alone, not to mention plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. Directed by Mike Judge and starring Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph. (2006, R, 1h 24m)

“…easily the most potent political film of the year, and the most stirring defense of traditional values since Edmund Burke’s Reflections on the Revolution in France.” – Relhan Salam, Slate

“If the world is going to hell in any number of handbaskets — as Judge so acutely demonstrates that it is — you might as well hitch a ride in his.” – Ann Hornaday, Washington Post

“Mike Judge’s Idiocracy is absolutely a satire for its time… “ – Robert Koehler, Variety
