Killers of the Flower Moon

Based on David Grann’s broadly lauded best-selling book, Killers of the Flower Moon is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror. Enormous in runtime, theme, and  achievement, the film is a sobering appraisal of America’s relationship with Indigenous peoples and yet another artistic zenith for director Martin Scorsese and his collaborators. The cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow and Brendan Fraser. (R, 3h 26m)

“[A picture] brimming with reverence for a culture that survived a horrible trauma as it is filled with exhilarating flourishes, film history references, and explorations of the faultline between the sacred and profane. And yes: It’s a masterpiece.” – David Fear, Rolling Stone

“Robbie Robertson’s old-timey blues score beats time to a movie so richly entertaining, its three hours and 26 minutes whip by in a blur. As the great man himself would say, what a picture!” – Philip De Semlyen, Time Out

“It’s anchored by performances from Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro that both rank among their best, but the soul of the movie belongs to Lily Gladstone, who broke out in 2016’s Certain Women.” – Esther Zuckerman, The Daily Beast
