Based on a Stephen King short story, Rob Reiner’s easygoing nostalgia piece recounts the journey of four young boys set out to find the dead body of a missing child. Narrated by Richard Dreyfuss, the inseparable friends — Gordie Lachance (Wil Wheaton), Vern Tessio (Jerry O’Connell), Chris Chambers (River Phoenix) and Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman) — find themselves on an adventure colored by personal pressures while they learn more about one another and their very different home lives. Just a lark at first, the boys’ expedition evolves into a defining event in their lives. (1986, R, 87mins)
