Rental Family

Set in modern-day Tokyo, Rental Family follows an American actor (Brendan Fraser) who struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese “rental family” agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality. Confronting the moral complexities of his work, he rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the quiet beauty of human connection. (PG-13, 1h 43m)

“…a dramedy that proves a charming surprise balancing poignancy and humor with rare delicacy.” – Frank Scheck, The Hollywood Reporter

“This is a nice movie: the kind that’s lit brighter than a dentist’s office, scored by the lead singer of Sigur Rós, and aimed towards a heart-stirring conclusion about empathy, isolation, and the power that we all have to affect each other’s lives.” – David Ehrlich, IndieWire
