Stars at Noon
A young American journalist stranded in present-day Nicaragua (Margaret Qualley) falls for an enigmatic Englishman (Joe Alwyn) who seems like her best chance of escape. She soon realizes, though, that he may be in even greater danger than she is. Directed by acclaimed French director Claire Denis (Beau Travail, Both Sides of the Blade) this film was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Grand Prix. The film is in English. (2h 18m)
“Denis has crafted a film that syncs your heartbeat to its own intoxicating rhythms: a full-body immersion in uneasy pleasures.” – Robbie Collin, Daily Telegraph (UK)
“In carrying this hefty film, Qualley joins an auspicious club of Denis’s selected leads, among them Vincent Lindon, Isabelle Huppert and… Juliette Binoche. Wherever the filmmaker goes from here, one rather hopes she takes the 27-year-old star with her.” – Guy Lodge, Variety
