The Best of Rodgers and Hammerstein

The recent book by Todd Purdum about the lives of composer Ricard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, ‘Something Wonderful’, has sparked interest in their brilliant collaboration. As a tribute to their work, the Naro will present four of their best-loved filmed musicals. Each film will have a Saturday and Monday matinee, with times to be determined for each film event.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC Based on the real life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, Julie Andrews plays the role of Maria, the tomboyish postulant at an Austrian abbey who becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain (Christopher Plummer) with seven children, and brings a new love of life and music into the home.
