2023 Oscar Nominated Short Films

 

 

We are pleased to once again be presenting a compendium of this year’s Oscar-nominated short films.

Each nominee is released in one of three distinct feature-length compilations according to their category of nomination: Live Action, Animation, and Documentary. See official website for nominees.

The films will be presented during the weeks before the 2023 Academy Awards event. The theatrical release of the nominated short films each year is the world’s largest commercial release of short films on the planet, delighting audiences and giving filmmakers unprecedented opportunity to entertain short film fans.

In recent years, the Oscar® Nominated Short Films have been released in over 700 theaters across the US and Canada, garnering reviews in every major news outlet, from The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Deadline to The New York Times and the Huffington Post. The films have also been released annually in a growing number of theaters around the world, including the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, South Africa, Mexico, Chile, China and Australia among others, making it a truly international release.


2023 Oscar-Nominated Documentary Action Shorts

Sunday, March 12th at 6 pm!
Here is this year’s lineup for Documentary Shorts Oscar nominees, which will be presented sequentially with a total running time of 165 minutes, rating equivalent of  PG-13/ R for adult themes.

  • How Do You Measure a Year? – Jay Rosenblatt, USA, 29 min.
  • The Elephant Whisperers – Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga, India, 40 min.
  • Stranger at the Gate – Joshua Seftel and Conall Jones, USA, 29 min.
  • Haulout – Evgenia Arbugaeva and Maxim Arbugaev, UK, 25 min.
  • The Martha Mitchell Effect – Anne Alvergue and Debra McClutchy, USA, 40 min.

2023 Oscar-Nominated Live Action Shorts

Saturday, March 11th at 5 pm! Here is this year’s lineup for Live Action Shorts Oscar nominees, which will be presented sequentially with a total running time of 110 minutes, rating equivalent of  PG-13 for adult themes.

  • Ivalu– Anders Walter and Rebecca Pruzan, Denmark, 17 min.
  • Night Ride – Eirik Tveiten and Gaute Lid Larssen, Norway, 16 min.
  • Le Pupille – Alice Rohrwacher, Italy, 39 min.
  • The Red Suitcase – Cyrus Neshvad, Luxembourg, 18 min.
  • An Irish Goodbye – Tom Berkeley and Ross White, UK, 23 min.

2023 Oscar-Nominated Animated Shorts

Thursday, March 9th at 5 pm!
Here is this year’s lineup for Animated Shorts, which will be presented sequentially with a total running time of 95 minutes*.  

  • An Ostrich Told Me the World is Fake and I Think I Believe It – Lachlan Pendragon, Australia, 12 min.
  • The Flying Sailor – Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby, Canada, 8 min.
  • Ice Merchants – João Gonzalez and Bruno Caetano, Portugal/France/UK, 15 min.
  • The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse – Charlie Mackesy and Matthew Freud, UK, 33 min.
  • My Year of Dicks* – Sara Gunnarsdóttir and Pamela Ribon, USA, 26 min.

*PLEASE NOTE: Four of these films are suitable for kids 10 and up, but the final film, My Year of Dicks, is for adult audiences only and is not suitable for children. There will be a 30-second break after the 4th film so that patrons, if they choose, can exit the auditorium.
